That is often due to some games not able to abide by the Windows Default Playback Device selection and instead may just try using another as a the default, such as USB Headset or HDMI Audio, and that is where the issue is sometimes. However some legacy games will have issues on newer hardware. That plus other options, as well as using quality headset or speakers will ultimately make more difference then buying another piece of hardware and also adding to your mix of installed drivers & software. With Realtek's official drivers installed, that gives you a custom equalizer. Unless u need for audiophile reasons, higher-end recording/studio stuff, then it will do nothing for you. If you know of a proper solution for this problem then please point me to it.Īftermarket Sound Cards do not do anything any better then onboard sound, as Realtek HD Audio is just as good as any of those sub-$100 Sound Cards out there. I have searched the web for other, real, fixes to this issue and have come up empty. This is too much work to go through when I want to play an hour of BioShock or Battlefront then watch some recorded TV or Movies. Disabling Stereo Mix does not bring surround sound back, I have to: I say this because when I install whatever Realtek driver is available on the internet and enable Stereo Mix, I loose surround sound for movies and TV from Media Center through HDMI (I still have the option of analog surround sound from the Realtek chipset).
I am also using this PC as a HTPC and Surround Sound is important. With BioShock I tried disabling the onboard audio in the BIOS and it did not solve the problem. If I disable all of my audio devices in Windows then I can play BioShock or Battlefield II with no sound.
On Board Realtek Audio (not used, but enabled in the BIOS) I was surprised when I seen this because it is the same reason I cannot play the original BioShock. I naturally searched the forms and found the "Stereo Mix Fix". I downloaded Star Wars Battlefront II last night and it crashes when trying to start a mission.
First off let me say I am putting this in the Hardware and Operating Systems section because it is not particular to any one game.
